New competition to find Essex’s most inspiring Disability entrepreneurs

The Essex Innovation Programme (EIP) and ECC’s Employment and Skills Unit are hoping to highlight entrepreneurial success stories among the disability community to inspire others to aim high in the business world.


The Essex BIG Business Boost competition has launched two new awards for 2016 to celebrate entrepreneurs with a disability.


In 2015, the BIG Business Boost competition attracted more than 200 entries, and delivered tens of thousands of pounds of business support, training and cash prizes to small businesses across Essex.


The competition is back with a new format for 2016, as EIP and Essex County Council’s Employment and Skills Unit team up to deliver four new awards celebrating the diversity of entrepreneurship flourishing in Essex. The 2016 BIG Business Boost will feature the ‘Disability Entrepreneur Award’ and ‘Personal Triumph Award’.


The aim of the Disability Entrepreneur Award is to find entrepreneurs with great business ideas who can, with the support offered by the BIG Business Boost, develop these ideas into successful businesses.


The Personal Triumph Award is a nomination only award to recognise Essex businesspeople who have overcome personal challenges to successfully run a business.


Two winners of the Disability Entrepreneur Award, alongside one Personal Triumph winner, will take home a business support package worth £2,000, including a cash boost for their business, while every entrant will win support for their business or business idea.


Glenn Badham, Skills Manager Supporting Employment for Working Age Adults, said:

“The BIG Business Boost is launching these new awards to find and recognise business owners who have made a success of themselves in the business world despite difficult circumstances, and helping them inspire others to believe that they too can achieve in business.”
